"Sports agent" means a person who, for a fee, directly or indirectly, tries to get procures and negotiates employment for an athlete with a professional sports team. He also negotiates endorsement deals for an athlete. In addition, the agent often handles public relation matters for the athlete. Some large sport agent companies such as IMG and Octagon, agents deal with all aspects of an athlete's finances, from investment to filing taxes.
A Talent Manager is a professional engaged in advising and counseling models and actors in every aspect of the entertainment industry. A Talent Manager works closely with their client in every facet of their career and acts in conjunction with their client's agents, publicists, business managers, attorneys and all others. As an important member of the team, the talent manager functions as facilitator and coordinator of the efforts and activities of the talent's entire team.
Personal Managers, sometimes called "mother agents" prepare you for the market and introduce you to people who can get you paying work. A good personal manager will know how to evaluate your look against the various types used in modeling, and advise you on the styling changes you need to make to appeal to the market.
Finally, a personal manager will have contacts with "booking agents" (a "model management company") which can actually put you in touch with ad agencies and photographers who wish to hire models.
Personal managers prepare you to be accepted by a booking agent. The photos a mother agent has you pose for are intended to appeal to booking agents, but may be wrong for the agent's particular listing of clients.
