Unpaid or Low-Paying Modeling Jobs Can Help Start Your Modeling Career

Transforming a Low-Paying Opportunity into Something that can Generate Exposure For You

Athletic Modeling encourages new models accept low-pay or unpaid Model Jobs because they can receive benefits that help them indirectly later.

Accepting a low-paying modeling job can provide you with exposure.

Exposure is when you or your name is "seen" by modeling professionals. Exposure is the way to become famous.

You accept a low-paying modeling job and a modeling professional sees you in the advertisement. Then the professional contacts you if he wants to hire you.

So, when you accept a low-paying modeling job, assure that your name is printed somewhere near the ad or photo (each and every time it appears) as:

MODEL: Your Name.

So, when some company offers you a very low amount of money for your first modeling job, be sure to say "Sure, I will do it, but I need my first and last name to be printed whenever the photo is used." Your name need not be printed in huge letters in the ad. Just the same size as the copyright notice which likely lists the photographer's name.

A Low-paying Modeling Job Can Offer You Professional Networking

Networking (meeting photographers, stylists, creative staff from chain stores, advertising executives, etc.)  is so important that some smart guys are willing to lose money by accepting opportunities to meet these professionals in person.

Examples of low-pay or no-pay modeling jobs that will benefit your career

Lose money by working at Magic.

Traveling to Vegas to work as a model for one of the exhibitors at the Magic Men's Apparel Trade Show, held each February and August, is very smart. Hundreds of clothing  and underwear manufacturers hire models to stand at their booths at this multi-day trade show and exhibition. Apparel makers also hire models to model their clothing during runway shows at Magic. When you go to an event like Magic, you have a chance to meet pros.

Working at the Magic in Vegas pays about $200 per day. However, since that does not include hotel or travel, most models who go end up spending more money than they earn. However, the high number of people they can "network" with by simply being at this trade show makes it worth the effort. Being seen at Magic can turn into high-paying modeling jobs.

Get involved in the Arnold Fitness Classic.

Fitness pros from all over the world gather for the Arnold Fitness Classic, held each late winter in Columbus, Ohio. Working this major event in any capacity gets you seen by leaders of the modeling and fitness industry and can result in good-paying jobs

Sure, you may end up with more money if you stay home. However, money should not be the only factor driving your career decisions.  Access to the pros is a valuable commodity.
