Being available with regards to scheduling and time doesn't help you if you cannot get to the photo studio. Being available also involves being geographicaly available. Getting to the studio so you can pose involves getting to the city where the studio is located. (The photographer is not going to travel to your city.)
If asked to travel for a modeling job, be sure not to bring up the need to ask off from your job. Nobody cares about your normal job. They just want to find a male model who is available.
Being Available For Last-Minute Modeling Jobs
Another important reason to be available relates to getting an opportunity through cancellations.
College guys are always looking for their "first big break". After you obtain your first paying modeling job, it is easier to get others because your appearance generates attention or exposure that sometimes translates into more modeling jobs because professionals see you in a campaign, and ask who the heck is he? They hire you because they saw you in an ad.
Additionally, appearing in one modeling job shows that you are professional and can be taken seriously. Saying that you are available is OK. But saying something is not proof. However, appearing in an ad shows that you were, in fact, available in the past for at least one modeling job!
